The tunnel is a 2-mile-long, 9-foot-diameter tunnel with a 500-foot radius curve to be excavated in soft ground conditions. While working at AECOM Los Angeles office, Mr. Vu served as a tunnel specialist on this project and provided technical support to LADWP. This included reviewing contractor’s tunnel work plan and related construction submittals, and assisting in evaluating causes of tunnel liner precast segment cracking when mining in curved sections and providing recommended mitigation measures to mitigate segment cracking. The tunnel excavation was completed successfully in 2016.
